The Impact of Language Policy on National Identity from the Perspective of Libyan Society

Résumé

This study investigates the impact of language policy on identity construction in Libyan society. It aims to examine how language policy shapes social identities and to explore the historical influence of such policies on the development of Libyan national identity. A randomly selected sample of 70 participants from Libyan society was studied. The findings reveal that language policy significantly affects identity construction, highlighting its ideological and cultural dimensions. The study recommends promoting awareness of the relationship between language and identity, fostering appreciation of linguistic diversity, and encouraging dialogue and inclusion to strengthen social cohesion and cultural understanding in Libya
