Investigating Students' Perceptions of Using Artificial Intelligence Tools in Translation

Abstract

This study investigated undergraduate students’ perception of using Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in translation and their relationship with self-perceived translation competence. A quantitative approach was adopted using a questionnaire administered to 50 translation students at Tripoli University. The results indicates that ChatGPT is the most widely used AI tool and students mainly utilize AI for vocabulary search and terminology check. The results also indicate that students are aware of the limitations associated with excessive reliance on AI tools. The study highlights the importance of integrating AI tools into translation pedagogy while promoting independent translation skills and critical thinking.
