Abstract

This study aims to identify the level of emotional intelligence and its relationship with sportsmanship among players of the Libyan national basketball team. Emotional intelligence is considered one of the psychological factors influencing athletic performance, especially in team sports that require emotional regulation and continuous interaction among players (Lane et al., 2009). Likewise, sportsmanship is regarded as an essential ethical value that contributes to enhancing respect for rules, opponents, and positive behavior on the court (Abu Zaid, 2015).

The researchers adopted the descriptive approach using the survey method. The study sample consisted of (15) players from the Libyan national basketball team registered with the Libyan Basketball Federation. The Emotional Intelligence Scale and the Sportsmanship Scale were used as research instruments and were administered electronically during the first window of the African qualifiers for the 2025 World Cup.

The results revealed statistically significant differences in the levels of emotional intelligence and sportsmanship, in addition to a positive statistically significant correlation between the two variables. These findings confirm the importance of psychological preparation in developing ethical sports behavior
